The main purpose of the Maguin beet washing is to obtainthe cleanest possible beets.

Another significant advantage is the possibility to recover and add value to by-products : beet tails, sand, stones, weeds.

Maguin has developed a large range of equipment for this purpose:

• sand catching drum for washing water (see the page on stone catcher) : to reduce the mineral content of beet transporting and/or washing water
• vibrating separator (see the page on vibrating separators) to remove suspended substances in washing water after de-sanding
• dynamic separator to separate hard and soft fractions (typically separation of weeds and beet tails)
• weed washer : a small version of the paddle washer
• weed press : a rotary press with only one screw and specially designed for weeds
• weed crusher: a knife crusher adapted to the sugar factory
• stone washer / organic material separator : this removes the pollution risk and allows cleaned stones to be used for road building, cilvil engineering etc.

These devices reduce the loading and size of beet treatment equipment downstream of the washing plant (waste water treatment plant) and the dumping costs of solid waste (stones).

The recovery of beet tails, chips and weeds provides the opportunity for additional income. Using the weed washer, screen, crusher and press the recovered materials can be mixed with pressed pulp, dried and pelletised using Maguin’s own range of equipment.
